In every community, young people have great potential. They are intelligent, hardworking, and determined, but they often face obstacles beyond their control. Sometimes, just one person believing in them and taking action can make all the difference. I am proud to be an example of that.
I am Evans Amoah. I grew up in Mankessim, in the Central Region of Ghana, in a modest household with my mother and older brother. I completed my early education locally before getting admitted to Winneba Secondary School. Like many students from humble backgrounds, I had the drive but lacked a clear path or guidance to go further. My life changed when I met Miss Gladys Egyir, who was then my Economics tutor . What started as a professional relationship gradually developed into a life-changing mentorship. She believed in me and decided to help me grow. Her support extended beyond classroom lessons. She provided guidance, accountability, encouragement, and honest feedback when necessary. She pushed me to be my best self and taught me how to achieve that through focus and determination. With her mentorship, my academic performance improved significantly.
By the end of my Senior High School education, I achieved distinctions as the Best Student in Core Mathematics, Financial Accounting, Business Management, Integrated Science, and Overall Best Student, graduating with an aggregate of 8.
This achievement earned me a spot at the University of Cape Coast, where her ongoing support continued to shape my journey. Throughout my university years, I received the School of Business Dean’s Excellence Award for three consecutive years and graduated with a First Class degree in Bachelor of Commerce in Finance.
My story could have been different without her mentorship and investment in my growth. Miss Gladys Egyir did not just teach me; she opened doors to confidence, discipline, purpose, and opportunity. Today, I am a testament to the impact of genuine mentorship and support.
My success is a direct result of her decision to believe in my potential and act on it.
